One of the key tasks every researcher must perform is publishing their work, and most of this publication will occur in peer-reviewed journals. These publications are essential for promotion, recognition, and creating a dialogue with your colleagues around the world. Unfortunately, writing publication-quality manuscripts and guiding them through the peer-review process is a difficult, time-consuming, and often frustrating task. In this book, I'll teach you how to make the process easier based on what I've learned from more than 25 years of helping authors publish more than 6000 papers in some of the world's most prestigious journals (including Nature, Science, and PNAS). Writing for Science Journals explains the details of every section of a journal manuscript, including tips and tricks you won't find elsewhere about how to deal with the peculiar ways that journals work with authors and reviewers. I'll also deal with some of the implications of statistics and experimental design that you may have learned in school, but possibly not in an integrated form that guides you through the steps necessary to perform publishable research. In each chapter, I'll provide a list of key points that you can use as the basis for developing a learning plan. I've also provided links to relevant online resources via a Links page that is available only to purchasers of the book, and an errata and additions page (see below) that will provide a forum for expanding on the book until the 2nd edition is available.

Business English Writing

Everyone wants to know the "who-what-when-where-why-how-how much" immediately, in the first sentence.

Everyone wants to know the "who-what-when-where-why-how-how much" immediately, in the first sentence. They need to make decisions. When they read documents, they want to know the important things immediately. They want to know objectives, means of measurement, costs, and returns on those investments. They want to see that information in the first sentences. Good business writing is more about clear thinking than it is about writing style. Writing can only be as good as the thinking that precedes it. You must know what you want to say, what your objective is in saying it, and why it's important for your audience to read it. Organizing a writing project is very similar to organizing a presentation. The good writer is just as aware of his/her audience as a good public speaker is.After you have organized and outlined the subject of your memo, report, or letter, you should have a clear idea of your main focus. Focus in your business report or memo is your objective-it is the "why" of why you are bothering to write at all. Most business writing has its purpose buried. There is no focus, no goal, no call for action, and no desired end result. If you do not provide the focus, you force your reader to ask questions about your message which you should have answered before sitting down at your word processor.Knowing your audience will help you to organize your material so that it has the best chance of being read and understood. Put yourself in your reader's shoes-listen, and you will be better received.

I am not exaggerating when I say I get at least 8-9 messages over all social media platforms every single month asking me, how to write. “I love to write but I don’t know how to begin doing it formally.” “Can you give me tips on writing?” “Who will read me when nobody knows me?” “Is publishing a book very traumatising a process?” “Why don’t you take online classes teaching how to write?” These are just a few of the questions people ask me and while I really want to help them, I am never sure where do I begin from. Writing is such a vast activity on its whole and I believe no one can really be taught how to write. But all of us can learn to write better. In this book, I wanted to address questions about writing, editing, hiring an editor, and even, how to promote a book without spending a bomb. Many people remain confused and unaware of how none of this is too difficult if done the correct way. If you look hard and carefully, you might spot some errors in this book. I have not edited this book in the manner I run a fine-tooth comb through manuscripts of my clients. The reason for this is that I want to stress on an important point I keep telling all authors. The writer of the piece looks at it from the writer’s eyes. The editor’s eyes can spot things a writer’s eye might not. Of this book, I am (only) the author. I hope this book helps you. I know publishing is not a smooth experience. I cannot help you get published, but I hope I can help you with a few other things that come up in the process. I’d love to know what you think. Do mail me, I have mentioned my email id at the beginning of the book.

The Essential Guide to Writing History Essays is a step-by-step guide to the typical assignments of any undergraduate or master's-level history program in North America. Effective writing is a process of discovery, achieved through the continual act of making choices--what to include or exclude, how to order elements, and which style to choose--each according to the author's goals and the intended audience. The book integrates reading and specialized vocabulary with writing and revision and addresses the evolving nature of digital media while teaching the terms and logic of traditional sources and the reasons for citation as well as the styles. This approach to writing not only helps students produce an effective final product and build from writing simple, short essays to completing a full research thesis, it also teaches students why and how an essay is effective, empowering them to approach new writing challenges with the freedom to find their own voice.
