Built on the keystones of rhetoric, Everyone's an Author provides a strong foundation for authoring in the digital age: in college essays, but also on Twitter; in print, but also online; with words, but also with sound, video, and images. It shows students that the rhetorical skills they already use in social media, in their home and religious communities, at work and in other nonacademic contexts are the same ones they'll need to succeed in college. Examples and readings drawn from across multiple media and dealing with topics that matter to students today make this a book that everyone who takes first-year writing will relate to.

High School students today are writing more than ever. Everyone's an Author bridges the gap between the writing students already do--online, at home, in their communities--and the writing they'll do in high school, college, and beyond. It builds student confidence by showing that they already know how to think rhetorically and offers advice for applying those skills as students, professionals, and citizens. Because students are also reading more than ever, the third edition includes new advice for reading critically, engaging respectfully with others, and distinguishing facts from misinformation.

Everyone wants you to read the book on which he or she is working, a novel everyone is writing in order to find the meaning of life, with which everyone's spouse ran off. But everyone has to finish the novel before everyone can know where the novel begins. In the meantime, there are all these distractions, such as the twelfth-floor window at the office building where everyone works out of which people or maybe just one person keeps jumping or falling--everyone isn't sure--or everyone's sexy coworker Sam, whom everyone is struggling valiantly against to keep from becoming a paramour. It's kind of pitiful, actually, the way everyone keeps begging you to read, sending you e-mails, dropping it into conversation ("I have a book, you know?"), posting links to it on social-networking sites. Everyone figures that if he or she begs enough, you will break down and try it.

Everyone s an Author

It is difficult to revisit a composition that you have worked over - and take a gander at it with a fair eye, yet this is the thing that you should do.

Composing a book - or a brief tale is a mind blowing accomplishment. Nobody ought to at any point belittle the discipline and penance that has gone into transforming a thought into the real world. However, something that I, as a supervisor, concoct consistently, author's regularly don't understand that it is the amendment and once again composing of the story that makes it an extraordinary book. The cruel the truth is that genuinely - anybody can compose a book - it is simply an issue of hitting the PC keys and producing words. It is the correction and once again composing that transforms words into a book that perusers will adore. The distributing scene has opened up to scholars. Getting your book distributed is at this point not a unimaginable undertaking. Presently without question, anybody can compose a book and download it to an independently publishing site. Sadly this likewise implies that a ton of books that shouldn't be distributed are accessible for anybody to peruse. Learned spirits in the distributing scene persistently encourage independent publishers to find support with altering, and copyediting as well as story altering as well. While a few writers are excited to have another eye helping mold their words into a story a few essayists are stunned and disillusioned when their original copy is returned canvassed in remarks and inquiries from the manager. Do a little examination into the expert existences of any notable writer and you will see that actually they re-compose and once again compose and here and there re-compose again until the book is sufficient. The main draft of a book is the place where the thoughts simply spill out of your creative mind, fingers fly over the console and obviously each and every individual who peruses the book will disclose to you that it is absolutely splendid. But except if you are an artistic virtuoso the main draft of your book is without a doubt that - an obscure impression of the superb story that it could turn into. An editorial manager will go through your book and distinguish issues in the plot and with punctuation and perception, yet anybody needing to compose a decent novel should change their work first. It is difficult to revisit a composition that you have worked over - and take a gander at it with a fair eye, yet this is the thing that you should do. It can assist with taking care of the composition for possibly 14 days and afterward return to it revived and ready to take a gander at it dispassionately. Re-read and as you do actually look at the accompanying pointers: - Is the story exhausting? in case you are exhausted re-perusing, it's not on the grounds that you've perused that part so often, this is on the grounds that it's exhausting. Great composing is continually captivating, even subsequent to perusing it and over. We rehash most loved books. The most noticeably terrible offense an author can submit is to be exhausting. Cut up your story. Utilize a scratch pad and sum up every part and scene. Lay these out on the floor or a divider. Make sure that the request for the data adds to strain/anticipation. Likewise, contemplate the length of each piece, make sure that it is adding to the pacing and cadence of the story. This way you ought to have the option to see where a scene is excessively lethargic, or where it closes excessively fast. Really look at what the peruser realizes in each segment. Preferably, they should keep learning things about the characters or activity, to build the stakes, want, struggle, and so forth until the story pushes toward a completion. Take a gander at your composing style: - Have you utilized similar words again and again? Take a gander at your utilization of language - make sure that you are showing the peruser the activity, not advising them. In each passage, see opening sentence and last sentence specifically.Significant things. .

Everyone s an Addict

'Everyone's an Addict' is aimed at anyone. The hypothesis is that we're all addicts. If not to the major league isms, alcohol, drugs, food, gambling and sex; or the second division clutter, hoarding, shopping, video games and work; then to the minor league smoking, sudoku, TV shows and the like - something. Addiction robs us of time that would better be spent in improving our own lives and, as a byproduct, other people's. Even those who think they are not addicted but would like to improve themselves, can all benefit. It has a secular approach - supporting freedom of religious belief, or none, for all. And, inline with the UN's ideas, anyone should be able to change their beliefs at any time. So it is suggested that people who attend meetings primarily address their addictions and keep the meetings non-religious. There are plenty of opportunities to practice religion, atheism and agnosticism elsewhere. 12-step meetings are non-religious, so they are aimed at everyone, too. Not everyone addresses addiction through a twelve step meeting, though, and those that choose an alternative route will find 'Everyone's an Addict' equally helpful to them, whether they attend a clinic or choose another method. This book takes the format of an inspirational comment for each day of the year. Therefore the appropriately numbered 'step', 'tradition' and 'concept' from AA is covered month-by-month. Further 12 step programs like NA, OA, GA, SA and others are given coverage, too. Are you an addict? For the inquisitive drinker asking the question 'Am I an alcoholic?' the question is: Do you have trouble stopping drinking once you have started? If so, you are most likely an alcoholic. Is it the same for you with drugs, eating, gambling or violent behavior? Did you indulge in it when your intentions were dead set against it? Do you have other disorders around eating, like bulimia? Is sex something that preoccupies you unduly? Do you have behavioral problems in other directions such as anger, over-dependence on other people, hiding away from the world, lying, bullying and so on? Sometimes it is a multiple problem and the prime addiction needs to be identified. In Twelve Step programs these disorders must be self-diagnosed and the stepper must be a willing participant. Simply, it is anyone with a desire to stop doing whatever is causing the problem. Members hope that when potential newcomers reach their rock bottom they will have a moment of clarity and turn into a willing, or at least inquisitive, customer before it is too late. They hope the existence of these programs will come to the prospect's mind at the appropriate time, maybe due to the seed planted by information in a school talk years before, or through information passed on through doctors, magistrates, police, and the press. If you don't feel your behavior is obsessive or addictive, if you are interested in this book to make a general improvement in your behavior, ask yourself a similar question to the one above. Have you behaved badly towards someone when you had not intended to, or perhaps your behavior was over the top? Do you ratchet up an argumentative situation rather than try to take the heat out of it or walk away? Are you determined to have your way for the sake of it when there are many suitable ways to go? Are you controlling of other people or a compulsive helper? Results of these 12-step programs include: the relief of identifying yourself as an addict or someone with problem behavior after years of denial; the pride of being honest with yourself and the beginning of building your self-esteem; knowing yourself better and accentuating the positives. Then there is further self-improvement in the calming influence of meditation. Finally there is the task of helping other addicts and people at large because the programs are bridges to normal living.
