Corporate Bitch to Shaman

Evelyn Brodie worked as an economist in government and the City, then as a live television journalist, Head of Financial Communications and strategic communications consultant, until undeniable experiences forced her to change her belief system. ‘I had unconsciously adopted the role of Scary Corporate Bitch, which required me to suppress my femininity, intuition and compassion in favour of being super-rational, judgemental and selfish. I had absolutely no religious or spiritual beliefs.’ Today, Evelyn is a shaman, Reiki Master and craniosacral therapist, helping people to release the limiting beliefs of their social conditioning and step into their potential. This is her story, describing the esoteric experiences that forced her to change her belief system and adopt a new way of living. Remote viewing, re-birthing and shamanic journeying led her to investigate the multi-dimensional, non-local world of quantum physics and the new physiological discoveries of epigenetics and psychoneuroimmunology. ‘I discovered mounting scientific evidence to support the ancient traditions of energy healing, shamanism, prayer and meditation. This knowledge is available, but not widely taught.’ Corporate Bitch to Shaman is a popular science/medicine book that covers a number of topics, philosophy, non-locality, quantum entanglement, biology and consciousness. It will appeal to readers interested in taking more control of their own mental, physical and emotional health, including expanding their range of conscious awareness. ‘Helping people to achieve their magnificence and potential is one of my life’s purposes today... I hope readers will be intrigued and challenged by how 21st century science is evolving to validate the ancient healing wisdoms of the indigenous peoples and mystics around the world. I invite you to share my journey and hope it encourages you to go on to experience the benefits of at least some of these expanded state of consciousness for yourself!’

Shaman's Dream: the Modoc War is a literary non-fiction account of the 1873 standoff between besieged Modoc Indians and the United States Army on the California/Oregon border. The book - a kaleidoscope of a vested interests' - draws together eye-witness accounts by settlers, military and governmental records, reports, diaries, letters, press releases, telegrams - in a narrative that is a multi-cultural evocation of one of the last of the a Indian Wars.' A new, over-zealous Superintendent of Indians for Oregon precipitated the a war' in an ill-advised attempt to corral a group of Modocs and return them to the Klamath reservation. Loss of life and the burning of the camp at Lost River was repaid by Modocs escaping to a stronghold in the lava beds, where they were besieged for months, and where they were persuaded the a Ghost Dance' would save them. The standoff between the native Americans and the United States army eventually ended, but not until peace commissioners were wounded and murdered. The Army trial of the accused ended with hangings and the exile of the tribe, subsequently to Oklahoma. President U. S. Grant's a Peace Policy' whereby Christian ministers were employed to oversee the reservations died in the aftermath of these events. But most deeply wounded of all - and more lastingly in this, some would say, inadvertently religious war - were the shamans.

A distinguished anthropologist–who is also an initiated shaman–reveals the long-hidden female roots of the world’s oldest form of religion and medicine. Here is a fascinating expedition into this ancient tradition, from its prehistoric beginnings to the work of women shamans across the globe today. Shamanism was not only humankind’s first spiritual and healing practice, it was originally the domain of women. This is the claim of Barbara Tedlock’s provocative and myth-shattering book. Reinterpreting generations of scholarship, Tedlock–herself an expert in dreamwork, divination, and healing–explains how and why the role of women in shamanism was misinterpreted and suppressed, and offers a dazzling array of evidence, from prehistoric African rock art to modern Mongolian ceremonies, for women’s shamanic powers. Tedlock combines firsthand accounts of her own training among the Maya of Guatemala with the rich record of women warriors and hunters, spiritual guides, and prophets from many cultures and times. Probing the practices that distinguish female shamanism from the much better known male traditions, she reveals: • The key role of body wisdom and women’s eroticism in shamanic trance and ecstasy • The female forms of dream witnessing, vision questing, and use of hallucinogenic drugs • Shamanic midwifery and the spiritual powers released in childbirth and monthly female cycles • Shamanic symbolism in weaving and other feminine arts • Gender shifting and male-female partnership in shamanic practice Filled with illuminating stories and illustrations, The Woman in the Shaman’s Body restores women to their essential place in the history of spirituality and celebrates their continuing role in the worldwide resurgence of shamanism today.

Title first published in 2003. Shamanism has a contradictory position within the Korean cultural system, leading to the periodical suppression of shamanism yet also, paradoxically, ensuring its survival throughout Korean history. This book examines the place of shamans within contemporary society as a cultural practice in which people make use of shamanic ritual and disputing the prevalent view that shamanism is 'popular culture', a 'women's religion' or 'performing arts'. Directly confronting the prejudice against shamans and their paradoxical situation in a modern society such as Korea, this book reveals the cultural discrepancy between two worlds in Korean culture, the ordinary world and the shamanic world, showing that these two worlds cannot be reconciled. This unique study of shamanism offers a significant contribution to growing studies in indigenous anthropology and indigenous religions, and provides a captivating read for a wide range of readers through retelling the stories-never-to-be-told involving shamanic ritual.

Over the last century, Western portrayals of shamanism have changed radically toward an ethnopoetics of shamanism. While shamanic practices had long been indirectly registered by Westerners, it is only since the late nineteenth century that they have taken on symbolic import within discourses of primitivism and debates over magic and rationality.

This little book has a selected number of truthful anecdotes of some early supernatural experiences I went through beginning in October, ’72, during my graduate work in Social Work at Our Lady Of The Lake University, here in my beautiful hometown San Antone (some good folks call it San Antonio), as part of a pre-Destined, much larger spiritual Training that ended up stretching out some 33 years, and which I feel I am supposed to share with all you good people. But this is not about me: we ALL have Gifts, as Jesus repeatedly taught, and Demonstrated, whether we yet know it or not, and the Training has been HARSH, so I am bold in my Testimony, not being naïve about the dangers inherent in provoking controversy. This is (emboldened, admittedly) Testimony of the Guidance and Power and Love of my best Friend and Buddy since ’72, my beloved Lord Jesus, the coming Messiah and true King of the Mother Earth, Her peoples, and all of Nature (IN OUR LIFETIMES, ACCORDING TO MY TRAINING AND GIFTS, AND THE SIGNS NOW INCREASINGLY OBVIOUS, ALL AROUND US). There is an obvious progression of events that occurred during the Training, according to my Lord Jesus’ far-seeing purposes, so I have attempted to share that in a “scientific” way, if you would, -how one incident led to another, way down the road of linear time (but perfectly connected, in God’s timing). Such is the case with THE STORIES BEHIND THE PICTURE, with 13 of the early supernatural occurrences over a nine year period (’72 to’81) that led up to the picture (The Three Wood Dragons and Power Rock). Briefly, I have been close to my beloved Nature all my life, with both sides of my Family being solid, wonderful, country folk with deep spiritual values, raised in deep wilderness areas in south and east Texas, and all my young days my three cousins and I spent hunting and fishing, running through all those woods and creeks, just sitting, watching, listening to, and appreciating, all manner of wildlife (and the powerful, silent Music of God, out there). As soon as I learned to pray (ironically, through a beautiful 12th century Japanese Buddhist technique, explained in the book: please see A CHRISTIAN ADAPTATION OF THE NICHIREN SHOSHU JAPANESE BUDDHIST PRAYER CONSIDERATIONS), I went before my Lord Jesus on Nature’s behalf, and She has rewarded me (according to the Nagual, Don Juan’s, terminology- see the entire Carlos Castaneda works) in countless, exquisite ways, including the FOUR PHYSICAL OBJECTS GIVEN FROM SUPERNATURAL BEINGS: THE POWER ROCK AND THE THREE WOOD DRAGONS, given by the Astral Shaman and the Serpent Seraphim, as the Bible calls the supernatural Spirit Animals (well known by the Native Americans, before their genocide at the hands of the invading Europeans). I have created this little book (a larger one is still ahead, with more detailed Testimony (about 250 pages, most now handwritten), from a website, and added some special pieces from the larger manuscript. Some is deadly serious, but a lot of the pieces are definitely NOT serious, as you will see. Ya gotta keep a sense of humor all the time, do you not (Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer were my heroes: they made a Party out of everything, just as an aging Hippie is obliged to do). I must stress that the Jesus Whom I have known since 1975 as my Savior, best Buddy, and Confidante, is NOT the Jesus portrayed through the centuries through evil people and organized “religion”, who have given Him a bad name among our Spiritual Families all over this planet. As the Testimony details, Jesus brought me to Himself through a beautiful twelfth-century Japanese “Buddhist” prayer technique (all prayers to the Creator are “techniques”), Nichiren Shoshu, which brought my first answered prayer in 1974, a full year before I learned Jesus was behind my Training. On the contrary, He has taught me since the beginning that ANYONE WHO CALLS

“Doctor Zhivago . . . Anna Karenina . . . A Hero of Our Time . . . The People’s Act of Love will remind you of all these books . . . Magnificent” (The Washington Post Book World). Set in a time of great social upheaval, warfare, and terrorism, and against a stark, lawless Siberia at the end of the Russian Revolution, The People’s Act of Love portrays the fragile coexistence of a beautiful, independent mother raising her son alone, a megalomaniac Czech captain and his restless regiment, and a mystical separatist Christian sect. When a mysterious, charismatic stranger trudges into their snowy village with a frighteningly outlandish story to tell, its balance is shaken to the core. “The narrative drive is amazing. So is the cold clarity of Meek’s imagination.” —Stephen King “Meeks builds multiple narratives to a bloody, satisfying, yet unsettling conclusion. People’s Act of Love stands not only as a keenly observed historical thriller but as a resonant tale of how one man’s moral fervor can turn to horror.” —Entertainment Weekly “Meek expertly renders each man’s devotion to the task of securing paradise on earth, and exposes the unsettling affinity between the devout servant of God and the cold, calculating murderer.” —The New Yorker “Set during the waning days of the Russian revolution, Meek’s utterly absorbing novel captivates with its depiction of human nature in all its wartime extremes.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) “This ingenious, intricate novel, a meditation on grand ideas that is also a suspenseful page turner, avoids that too-easy wonder Russia often inspires in its admirers.” —The New York Times Book Review

Shamanism is one of the earliest and farthest-reaching magical and religious traditions, vestiges of which still underlie the major religious faiths of the modern world. The function of the shaman is to show his or her people the unseen powers behind the mere appearances of nature, as experienced through intuition, in trance states, or during ecstatic mystical visions. Shamans possess healing powers, communicate with the dead and the world beyond, and influence the weather and movements of hunting animals. The psychological exaltation of shamanism trance states is similar to the ecstasies of Yogis, Christian mystics and dervishes. Shamanism: An Introduction traces the development of shamanism in its many fascinating global manifestations. Looking at shamanic practices from Siberia to China and beyond, it provides an accessible guide to one of the world's most ancient, notorious and frequently misrepresented spiritual traditions. Placing special emphasis on the climate, geographic and cultural pressures under which shanic customs arose and continue to be observed, Margaret Stutley summarizes and clearly explains the logic of a faith whose fantastical elements hold a special place in popular imagination.

A collection of stories from the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky, The Shaman's Daughter touches on everything from baptisms and funerals to love and hate-no subject is off limits. You can practically hear the Southern accent of the characters, as author David S. Rains provides an uncensored look into his life. And the hilarity ensues, whether it's Mama hitting a neighbor over the head with an old wagon axle, David visiting his first whorehouse, or Mike blowing up his grandmother while trying to cure a dog of mange. The darkly comical stories in The Shaman's Daughter will have you laughing until you cry! The dog was running in larger and larger circles as the fuse burned shorter and shorter. Suddenly old Sarge turned and made a beeline for the house, to get under the porch where he always slept. "He's going to the house, he's going to get under the porch. Good Lord almighty, Granny is on the porch by herself. Good God! Granny, Granny, get away." Mike screamed as loud as he could holler. Granny, of course, couldn't hear anything, and especially from so far away. Plus, she was tied up. Granny just kept rocking, and talking to herself. -from the short story "Granny and Old Sarge"
