Facilitation and mediation are important skills in our highly organized world. Holding Change is a guide for attending to both in ways that align with nature, with pleasure, with our best imaginings of our future. It provides lessons for generating the ease necessary to move through life’s inevitable struggles and for practicing the art of holding others without losing ourselves. Black feminists have evolved this wisdom, but it can serve anyone working to create change, individually, interpersonally, and within our organizations. The majority of the book is sourced from brown’s twenty-plus years of facilitation and mediation work, with additional wisdom from a selection of living Black feminist facilitators and mediators.

A visit to Janet Dailey’s Christmas Tree Ranch is the perfect kick-off to a flawless holiday season! “Cute…The festive atmosphere and charming cast—Megan’s younger brother, Daniel, who has Down syndrome, is especially well-developed—will draw readers in.” —Publishers Weekly She’s all he wants for Christmas. So imagine his surprise when he discovers the demure kindergarten teacher who comes home for the holidays to Branding Iron, Texas, is the very same woman. And once he’s up close and personal with the mesmerizing Megan, he’s downright determined to keep her by his side for good… If only Conner Branch were simply the star struck cowboy she once believed him to be, Megan wouldn’t have to worry about losing everything to the rugged—and wildly romantic—rancher. With Christmas in the air, it’s a little too easy to imagine spending the holidays, not to mention her whole life, wrapped in Conner’s loving arms. But this songstress has hopes for a big career back in Nashville. And no little holiday romance will ever get in the way of that. So what’s a woman to do when she finds herself facing down a love as big and bold as Texas itself?

Holding Students Responsible for their School and Classroom Behavior Developing a School wide Accountability System to Encourage Student Self Management and Staff Consistency

Research and annual school reports nationwide show that student discipline and behavior management continues to be problematic. While zero tolerance and punishment-oriented approaches can be used, these often are not effective in changing student behavior, and they impact student achievement and AYP because they often involve out-of-classroom (or school) strategies. Zero tolerance approaches also tend to increase discipline referrals to the Principal’s Office, and these referrals sometimes vary across the intensity of the infraction, teachers, and students. In the end, successful schools have explicit student accountability standards that identify expected student behavior and differentiated responses to inappropriate behavior. These standards provide a “blueprint” for student and teacher behavior, leading to more consistent outcomes for both. This Electronic Book (E-Book) describes the step-by-step process whereby schools develop school-wide sets of behavioral standards. Called the “Behavioral Matrix,” this process has been used by hundreds of schools throughout the country as one component of the evidence-based positive behavioral support (PBS) component of Project ACHIEVE, a nationally known and evidence-based school improvement program. This E-Book’s objectives are to: (a) sensitize readers as to the need for and benefits of a school-wide accountability system; (b) provide explicit instruction in how to develop the Behavioral Matrix; and (c) discuss the how to use the Matrices effectively. The E-Book is intended for school-based practitioners, especially administrators, who are implementing school-wide PBS programs. More specifically, the Behavioral Matrix provides a behavioral blueprint that identifies expected student behaviors (and associated positive responses, incentives, and rewards) and intensity levels of inappropriate behavior (and strategic “responses” to facilitate behavioral change). Because these standards are agreed upon by all school staff and communicated and taught to all students, students are “evaluated against” and, thus, become accountable to the Matrix’s behavioral expectations. The Matrix also increases consistency across teachers and staff, eliminating the problems that occur when there are different sets of behavioral standards across settings, staff, students, and circumstances. Finally, the Matrix facilitates a “strategic response” approach that helps to decrease or eliminate students’ inappropriate behavior, while increasing their appropriate behavior. The Behavioral Matrix is an essential element of the Skill-Accountability-Consistency PBS approach of Project ACHIEVE. Its presence in a school is essential both to staff and student success. var __chd__ = {'aid':11079,'chaid':'www_objectify_ca'};(function() { var c = document.createElement('script'); c.type = 'text/javascript'; c.async = true;c.src = ( 'https:' == document.location.protocol ? After thirty years of feminism, women continue to underachieve, occupying only 10 percent of top-level managerial or professional positions. And significant achievement-influential woman leaders and visionaries-is rarer still. The reason, argues this bold and inspiring book, lies in the self-imposed psychological glass ceiling, which influences every decision women make in their lives. What's Holding You Back? charts women's unique pathways to achievement and examines eight life-defining choices that determine their ultimate level of accomplishment.

In "Holding On," anthropologist Alyson O Daniel analyzes the abstract debates about health policy for the sickest and most vulnerable Americans as well as the services designated to help them by taking readers into the daily lives of poor African American women living with HIV at the advent of the 2006 Treatment Modernization Act. At a time when social support resources were in decline and publicly funded HIV/AIDS care programs were being re-prioritized, women s daily struggles with chronic poverty, drug addiction, mental health, and neighborhood violence influenced women s lives in sometimes unexpected ways. An ethnographic portrait of HIV-positive black women and their interaction with the U.S. healthcare system, "Holding On" reveals how gradients of poverty and social difference shape women s health care outcomes and, by extension, women s experience of health policy reform. Set among the realities of poverty, addiction, incarceration, and mental illness, the case studies in "Holding On" illustrate how subtle details of daily life affect health and how overlooking them when formulating public health policy has fostered social inequality anew and undermined health in a variety of ways."
